Biggin Hill Executive Aircraft Handling
London Biggin Hill Airport is the first, and for the time being, the only general aviation airport in the London area to operate the Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) Pet Travel Scheme.
Approved operators will be able to fly owners with their pets directly to London Biggin Hill Airport for clearance, rather than to Heathrow or Gatwick.
London Biggin Hill Airport has a specially trained team of pet handlers, the Sky Pets Team, who will meet the aircraft on the main apron. A member of the Sky Pets Team will board the aircraft and check the pet’s documentation and micro-chip whilst the owner is present. If the documentation is correct the pet will be free to disembark the aircraft with its owner and, once the passengers have cleared Immigration, they can all continue their journey in the UK. The clearance time at London Biggin Hill Airport is considerably shorter than at Heathrow and Gatwick, and a great advantage of the service we offer is that owners will not be parted from their pets.
For the procedure to run smoothly, Sky Pets require 24 hours notice prior to the arrival of any aircraft carrying a pet which requires clearance. All the relevant documentation should be faxed to Sky Pets no later than 24 hours prior to arrival to enable the documents to be checked to avoid any problems on arrival. The pet and the original documents will be checked on the aircraft by a member of the Sky Pets Team. Any pet which arrives with incorrect documentation will be transported from the aircraft to the Sky Pets Animal Reception Centre where the team will endeavour to solve the problem, but this may cause a delay or the animal may have to be sent to quarantine.
Pets can also be cleared at London Biggin Hill Airport before proceeding to any other UK airport.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Only authorised carriers which comply with the requirements of the Biggin Hill Pet Travel Scheme and hold an approval for the route issued by DEFRA will be accepted.
