Norwegian regional airline Wideroe had its second incident in three years, where a wheel broke off, making the planes (Dash 8-100) leave the runway. Both incidents happened in the northenmost part of Norway, where planes are operating from 800 meter runways. Nobody injured in both cases.

Was it a hard landing, bad maintenance or bad luck (material failure)?

The first incident is said to be caused by a bolt that snapped. The final report is not yet available.

The last plane is said to have been touching down with an angle. Apparantly more than the undercarriage could take. Has anybody heard of similar incidents, involving the Dash-8?

With regard to my first post; it now seems that both incidents where due to some kind of "safetybolt" that is supposed to snap in case of a very hard landing, so that the wings and fueltanks would not be destroyed. Approachprosedures for these small airports in northern Norway might be revued, because of these incidents.

It looks like the Dash 8-100, LN-WIS, that slid off the runway with the right undercarriage broken, could be to damaged to be worth repairing. If there is further structural damage than can be seen with a quick overview (se picture below) there is a chance that the plane will be scapped.
