when i was landing in brussels yesturday i noticed 3 a/c lined up on another runway with bit of seperation between them. is this normal practice in busy airports and is there regulations etc ie min distance on rwy?

I'm going take a bit of wild guess and suggest your flight might have landed on Runway 25R. There is an intersecting Runway 02/20 which is often used as a taxyway. See this map http://www.ifalpa.org/sab/06SAB002.pdf
That might explain what you saw..............
