I recently came across an old book of mine - "The Young Air Traveller's Handbook" - published in 1980. It mentions a/c approaching EGKK holding in 'race-track pattern' at the Midhurst VOR. I was wondering if this procedure is still carried out? If not, when did it stop?

Thanks

As far as I'm aware, arrivals to egkk from the midhurst direction route holly willo, to hold at willo (Racetrack pattern). Mid may still be used as a release point not sure though. :ok:

Not sure if it was ever thus, someone will know. There are two primary holds at EGKK, one at TIMBA based on the Mayfield VOR and one at WILLO based on the Midhurst VOR. Neither are actually 'at' these VORs. An alternative hold at ASTRA is based on the Seaford VOR if the MID VOR is out of service. There are other holds, used in unusual circumstances, but none actually at those VORs

These holds have been in use for at least 20 years.

The book may have been referring to willo then, but simplfied it for its young readers...
