Liverpool to be Ryanair New Base

In addition to the announcement that Ryanair is to link Liverpool to Brussels Charleroi its was also revealed that they, the airport and the airline, have signed a long term 10 year agreement.

It is agreed that Ryanair will make Liverpool its north of England base. The airline will develop the links from its other bases prior to basing "a good few" aircraft at Liverpool.

Just exactly where do they think that they will park them? Will ramp overcrowding affect LPL's ability to accept diversions?

The Liverpool airport company do not operate its airport on the assumption that it MAY receive diverts.

If the diverts affect its scheduled traffic by blocking stands it will not accept them in the first place.

The apron stand markings have been re-set and provides 21 stands with some of them designed to accept widebody aircraft.

Also heard a RUMOUR, when at Manchester the other day, Ryanair where going to develop Manchester as their new base and have some agreement with the airport for free landing fees for five years. This was subject to them basing/operating X amount of aircraft out of Manchester.

The MAN story sounds like nonsense. How would the airport authority hope to continue a relationship with its existing full service carriers if it was offering free landing fees to tempt low cost carriers to come in and compete with them? I can't imagine Lufthansa or BA would take too kindly to Ryanair being given free landing fees to operate a Hahn service, for example.

Uummmm........and I am also hearing Coventry is a possibility for both MOL and Stelios, although the locals won't like the MOL's 200's launching out of there.
