Sad to report that Roy Smith departed the circuit after a long battle against the Big C.

I knew Roy in many of his guises ..... as a Flt Sgt at Scottish Mil in the late 1980s, and then at Dundridge College, and then at Glasgow.

His crossword ability and fitba'/bookies knowledge was envied by many.

Funeral in Kilmarnock on Friday 1120am. PM me for exact times.

I'm sure you will al join me in sending condolences to Sheila, Scotty and the rest of the family.

All the best Roy.
Glad to see a good few turned out for you. It's been good knowing you these last 26 years.

RIP Chas

Rotten news; Roy was a top bloke. We haven't worked together since his Scottish(Mil) days but he definitely made a big impression on those of us lucky enough to have met him during his many years in ATC. An absolute pleasure both to work and socialise with. God rest his soul.

A very sad Sad.

So sorry to hear of the news of Roy's passing. I too knew Roy during his ScATCC(Mil) days in the late 80s. I remember doing evening shifts during the week waiting to 'catch' 20-odd F111s 'popping out' of the LFS, point them toward the orbiting KC-135 and drop them back into the LFS again. Those times on console were made all the more fun when you were sat with Roy. Indeed, he was one of the guys that gave me the encouragement (and reports) to go and try to become a controller. I'm grateful for that and glad that he did - one of the best moves I ever made. He was terrific company and good fun to be with, both at work and socially.

Sincere condolences to his family. RIP Roy, you'll be missed but not forgotten.
