View Full Version : 737 Fuel and HYD pump operation

Hi Evryone,
I've been itching to ask this for a while.
On this photo http://www.planepictures.net/netshow.php?id=443145
after shutdown they have all six fuel pumps on but also they have the electric hydraulic pumps on and the engine driven ones off. My understanding is that there is 1 fuel pump to kept on for APU operation and the electric hydraulic pumps should be off and the engine ones on.

they have the main fuel pumps off but the center tank ones on. How odd.
Can anybody explain if this is normal??

These are both lufthansa aircraft!!! All switches are switched "on" and "off" in opposite direction. Don't ask me why, but that's how Lufthansa bought the aircraft from Boeing.

During our Typerating course we were told to exercise caution if ever operating ex Lufthansa aircraft as they have their aircraft configured with on=up and off=down. This was secondhand info though, but might be an explanation. I stand to be corrected. If correct it seems to be normal ops.

Thanks for the reply's You learn something new every day!

However, in this photo of a 737-800 that has just shutdown after a flight all 4fuel pumps are on and the electric hyd pumps are on!! could it be that because Ryanair have only short turnround times they leave them on?

Dunno about others, we keep main tank fuel pumps and all hydraulic pumps on during turnarounds (standard turnaround time 30 minutes for the -300). We used to switch the electric hydraulic pumps off however that was changed recently.

pp763. This is the correct setup for transit-shutdown acc to our SOPs. And you're right about short turnarounds. Standard is 25 mins.

Hi all,

Though not relevant to 737, but Cathay Pacific also had their Classic B747 Boeings delivered with most of the flight deck switches mounted the wrong way around.
Really offputing when operating such airplanes, could never get used to this setup!

When we took a few airplanes from LH our poor engineers had to invert all the switches and repaint all the ON - OFF markings!!!!

But these airplanes still have the bar below the landing lights switches!

A bit ridicolous, but not the end of the world. :)
