Geographic Information System ??

It features in kit such as CAATS used in Canada.

Try Google ;)

Also known as a map.

Wether it's a video map on the radar display, half-mil, quarter-mil, Ordnance Survey, local area map, they are v. useful.

Somehow, I suspect this doesn't answer you question though...

Hi Hairy Chest,

I graduated in GIS from Kingston University back in 2000, so was very interested in your thread.

Are you researching this for your studies or just general interest?

I did my final year dissertation on GIS applications for environmental applications at airports.

I came across some useful stuff on ESRI's website.

I guess that any system handling air traffic information could be defined as a GIS, due to it dealing with spatial information.

Airports with noise monitoring systems use GIS to display aircraft track-keeping.
