Is it normal for the lavs on DC10s to flush with the ****e from the tank? I noticed on a few recent trips on a DC10 that there is no "blue juice" flushing the toilets, but nasty brown ****e liquid!!! Quite horrid, and a stench that is impossible to describe!

:ooh: This sounds horribly familiar! They should flush with the 'blue stuff' of course, but they need regular attention with a pressure washer. This involves removal from the aircraft and is an unpleasant task for somebody. Either that, or the toilet tank needs emptying. Is this passenger or cargo?

This sounds like a Recirculating Toilet that is not set up correctly. Not a DC-10 feature but can happen (like no blue stuff) on any such unit. Not unique to aircraft, you get them in trains etc nowadays rather than dumping it all on the tracks. They're called recirculating, guess what it is that recirculates ?! Engineers can doubtless explain how they work in detail.
