In the C310 nose locker is a placard stating "350lbs max load, less optional equipment".

Have looked through the POH and last M&B sheet /aircraft weight sheet and can find no reference to optional equipment.

If there is any fitted, what is being refered to? (avionics?) and where should I find reference to it?

Cheers

On the C31) the optional equipment in the nose cone can be
1 Radar
2 Oxygen

The radio equipment is relatively standard

Don't they sometimes stuff the fuel burning heater in the nose? I remember the Baron had one there.

There is a fuel burner heater, but should it be placarded inside the locker? If there is no placard can I assume no optional equipment fitted.

I seem to remember seeing in a Chieftan a similar placard which gives max load less optional equipment, it then lists the optional equipment and the remaining load available.

Howdy,

Seems like I remember that when optional equipment is installed, the (revised) placard will reflect this.:D

Your maintenance records should include a STC for this heater which will address the new weight, I think.:O

I flew a C320 with the bunson type heater. It made anything else stowed stink even if unused. It also gave way to very high levels of carbon monoxide if you were tempted to use it !!!. Quite apart from the unease of a lit flame in front of me it is a pain to maintain and operate. Remove at the first opportunity and just wear your skiing gear !.

Main structural design problems relate to

(a) local locker loading .. shear and bending in the main

(b) (for larger, longer aircraft) fuselage bending loads

The original certification will have included anything which is mandatory equipment. It follows that if you stick something else in the area then, without specific certification reassessment, the usable locker freight load goes down by the mass of the modification.

One of the problems is that a lot of "little" mods get done without the level of attention to paperwork detail which the system anticipates.

You would need to go back through the aircraft history to get an accurate answer to your concern and then the remaining available usable load should fall out of the review without too much trouble.
