Hey All,

Need some help. Looking for A318 performance information. Most on the internet only has pertaining range and weight type of info. I need is more detail, in terms of landing distance and t/off distance. Wanna compare if it could land in one of the small airports where i fly at. Thanx in advance.

-p.s.- A318 AOM would be good!

The A318/319/320 has a 34m wingspan requiring a properly constructed aerodrome (Class "D" or "E") with a runway of at least 1800m length, 45m or more wide. Ideally no more than 2000ft amsl and preferably no hotter than 31 deg C.

The aerodrome operator is examined and certificated; the airline likewise; Company "A" and Company "B" are interested in selling. Otherwise no deal.

Bearing in mind the figures just quoted the Company products are tailored to those constraints. Obstacle limited yes. Structurally limited no.

Thus for example A319-100 is 75.5t MTOW/62.5t MLW with options and 64t/61t without. The A318 is 68t/57.5t with and 59t/56t without.

You build a proper Class "D" or "E" aerodrome with a minimum runway of 1800m and it'll work, just.

Two quick A319 examples might illustrate, one American, one African.

i) Airport "X" at 7' amsl, 2745m TORA/TODA/ASDA, 0 slope/0 wind, wet/dry check, 35C, is 75.5t for take-off; with 2560m LDA is 62.5t for landing. i.e the full Monty, what else would you expect for all that money?

ii) Now airport "Y" at 2000' amsl, 1810m TORA/TODA/ASDA , 0 slope/0 wind wet/dry check 31C is 70.0t for take-off; with 1810m LDA is also 62.5t for landing. Just beginning to be tight on spec.

Company "A" only divulges full info to authorised receivers and has therefore a public website with eye candy and advertising puffery... and a professional, limited access website. Company "B" is freer with info - not a lot of cop but something -

AOMs then? Not really, conditions apply and although websites offer them they are without the qualifying detail.

Of course there are complexities and life is not simple. I am not suggesting that to build a longer length than 1800m is folly... you get a better facility. But anything less is asking for trouble and manufacturers such as "A" and "B" will need a lot of convincing before they supply. Not to say a load of clapped out old wrecks don't fly from dodgy fields, and saving your graces' pardon, I learned a lot about flying from that. If the worst comes to the worst bang 'er down and she'll decelerate at 11ft/sec/sec. Now try and get 'er off again... legally, assuming she's still in one piece that is.

Best Regards
