Nice airfield, tower controlled with two runways and a decent mix of the usual small GA stuff with a few jets. But winters can be hard up there and now might not be the best time of year.

Be sure also you understand what the 'JAR-compliant' PPL means. There is really no such thing: you will get an FAA Private Pilot's Licence which is usable in the UK up to a point, but lacks some important priveleges of a JAA/PPL in the UK (no night flying, no add-on ratings possible).

I have limited experience of Lancaster airport having only done a few hours flying a Bell 47 around the local area and general handling on the airfield, but I agree with LtN's comments. It struck me as a good location for training.

Lancaster itself isn't the most attractive of American cities but Lancaster County is very pleasant and, being in the heart of Amish country, very interesting. There can't be many places in the Western world where you can still see people riding around in buggies and ploughing fields with mules. Witness (Harrison Ford and Kelly McGillis) was filmed there.

Philadelphia is an easy 1.5 hrs drive away.
New York and Washington are both close enough for weekend visits.
