I am sure you did as an ATCO.

I am a PhD student at Imperial College London researching the area of equipment failures in ATC but most importantly the area of controller recovery from these failures. The aim of my reserach is to develop a methodology which will identify potentially more sever contexts surrounding the event of equipment failure.

And I need your help!!! I have designed a questionnaire which is trying to capture your past experience with equipment failures, level of training and existing procedures. If you are interested to share your experience with me, drop me a line on

[email protected]

and I will send you electronic version of the questionnaire to fill out.

Thank you very much in advance,

Branka

Is it just me or does this sound a little dubious.

Can you see the headlines tomorrow in the tabloids

"Airline Passengers At Risk Due to Unreliable ATC Equipment"

Sorry if I do you a dis-service Branka but there are many unscrupulous journos out there.

Hi again,

I understand your reluctance to answer. I guess I should be more clear. I am a PhD student at Centre for Transport Studies at Imperial College London and this project actually started in 2003 at EUROCONTROL Experimental Centre (Bretigny, France). I know the topic is highly sensitive, but I can assure you that any responce/questionnaire is totally de-identified and is used solely for the purpose of scientific research. You can check the official web-site of my Department here

http://www.geomatics.cv.imperial.ac.uk/html/research/atc.asp

Info on my project is under Miss Branka Subotic.

I hope this will clarify the issue a bit.

Thanks,

Branka

This is not one off spam. He has also posted it on the Oz ATC web site. Seems legit enough.

If they are truthful answers why would one worry about if they got printed??? Aren't equipment failures something that should be rectified and not hidden? Well I can see if you were management that you would be worried <G>...

Branka.....if you have already worked with the Eurocontrol Experimental Centre in Paris , why not continue your work at the (live) Eurocontrol Maastricht UAC in the Netherlands . A few system failures have been experienced since the new Ops Room has been working and there is still a wealth of experience there vis-a-vis the old MADAP system .
Surely you can arrange this , otherwise mail me .

BRANKA,

Why do you not write to the service providers direct, rather than posting on here. (Not a very good sample for your PhD). Anyway, I am sure most of the info you require is probably commercial in confidence and unless you are sponsored by Eurocontrol you will probably get told where to get off!
