Morning all,

I've been working out our fuel burn on our A65 engine, and the best I've had it to was 17.5L per (tacho) hour, the worst was about 20L per (tacho) hour.

Does anyone have any idea if these are good, bad or average figures? Does anyone else operate an A65 and know what thier fuel burn is?

Ta in advance

I would guestimate that our Vagabond consumes something like 18 lph at 2100rpm given a 1:30 chock to chock from Popham to Lashenden and requiring 23 ltrs as Lashenden (i.e. guessing about 1:15 actual flying time).

15 lites/hour seems to be the normal consideration for an A65 amongst my Aeronca friends.
The Vaga PoH (or what passes for one!) agree with you, it quotes 3 hours endurance with 12usg (45 litres).

I reckon I use 17 l/hr with 2100 rpm.

Over a typical year, we use 15.7 litres/hour at generally 2200-2250 rpm.

...and throttle position (hence float position)...chucking fuel out of the exhaust does nothing for consumption.

I always contest that the little A-65 has a "sweet spot" between 2150 and 2250 rpm, which with no scientific basis I assume means max power for minimum fuel burn.
