The Australian Newcastle University offers a Master of Aviation Management degree on line but when one checks out what the program is all about it shows that it is has nothing to do with aviation management! There are some management courses which have nothing to do with avaiation and they are all electives. There are four compulsory courses which are so-called aviation psychology. They mention CRM but much of ther course content is absolutely useless for the industry and so is much of the other rubbish in the psychology courses. It seems to be the case that the person responsible for the pychology courses has no background in aviation like operations, crewing, etc. How does that lecturer want to teach CRM? These courses are very expensive and I really think that advertising it as Aviation Management is misleading advertising. What is wrong with our Universities? Are they now that money hungry that they have to resort to misleading advertising and getting people under false pretences?
Nobody having done that degree is of any use in the industry and probably won't get a job as a result.

Although I am a Newcastle boy (but not a Newcastle Uni boy), I have no view on the Institution. However, it would be useful if you were to add some citations/links to your post to back up your claims regarding course content and something to substantiate your claims regarding degree value in Industry.

Some years ago I took on a 1 year contract as a lecturer with "an Australian University" offering aviation degrees. My observation then was that the university staff lecturers knew almost nothing about aviation or the industry, and depended almost entirely upon outside contract lecturers. The system may have changed (it could only get better, not worse), so tread warily - Seek out the "real world" qualifications of the lecturers before commiting your money and time.

Not all universities are the same.

Try looking a little further south at approx
33 55 S, 150 59 E.

The postgraduate aviation management courses there are offered by distance.

One of the rules of the site is that one should restrict oneself to one instance of a thread.

With two identical, or near so, threads elsewhere on the Oz forums, it is probably appropriate not to continue this one here, especially as the subject relates to an Australian University.
