As well as being a jobless pilot, I have a business ( www.anglosino.co.uk ) which amongst other things we source and supply products for companies and individuals. A current project involves importing 35000 flashlights...the factory is behind schedule so I am needing to air freight 5000 pieces as sea freighting the lot will mean not getting product on the shelf in time. Each torch comes with 3 AAA batteries in the box which I am unable to air freight as they are classed as dangerous goods according to the shipping agent. I of course remember this from the ATPL exams!! ;-) My question is....can 15k batteries be air freighted, ie is there any way around this?

Aboard All-cargo airplanes, to be sure.

I know aircraft batteries are airfreight on freighter aircraft from time to time when an aircraft goes tech. Can't see torch batteries being any different.

You'll need to get your shipping agent to speak to some airlines to get freighter only routes, after determining the dangerous goods type and all it's packing details.

Or change your shipping agent.
