If I fly to Abbeville, is it necessary to land at Le Touquet first and clear customs?
Does anyone have any information on Abbeville airfield?

Official (SIA) Abbeville information can be found here. (http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/aip/enligne/METROPOLE/AIP/VAC/A/VAC%20AD%202.LFOI.pdf)
From which comes:Douanes : HJ PN 24 HR au représentant CCI ☎ AD : 03 22 24 05 21 FAX: 03 22 31 24 38
So 24 Hrs PNR for Customs. "HJ" = Horaire du Jour i.e. Daytime

Thanks Dave and Farrel. What calls should you make at a french airfield without ATC? Is it just like UK airfields, and can I speak in English
No, you make your circuit calls in French on the published frequency for the place.
There are several threads around with all the French circuit calls.
Abbeville is QUIET. I went there with a friend a couple of years ago, and there was nobody about. We phoned customs on the mobile ("bonjour, allez-y") left the landing fee in the letterbox and scrounged a lift into town with a passing car.

Thanks, the information in the link that Dave provided didn't have any airfield frequency, any idea how I can find out what it is?

Frequency is 123.5 -this is a common club frequency - so aircraft at nearby fields may be on the air - so stick Abbeville in each call and make the usual (French) position reports.

You don't have to make your calls in French at any airfield in France, however, it would be a hell of a lot safer.......but make sure that you keep a lookout too!
I've had one or two surprises in the past!
although not as big as the surprises I got on the other side of the big pond! :}

Did you go, James?
If so, any feedback?

MrGroves appears to be embarking on an urgent international flight at short notice and with virtually no experience or knowledge of his destination's procedures or facilities. Am I alone in feeling more than a little uncomfortable and concerned? Agree about the restaurant though....first class! Cheers, bm
