Got cleared for the ils at man the othernight , not the usual loc, then glide palaver. Is the call changing to icao standard or was it a one off?

Why do southbound t16 oceanic have a clearance limit of 40n. Not Navix which is the first land based point at domestic FIR.Whereas northbound it is to omoko (land based domestic point) . Southbound issued by shanwick, northbound by santa maria.

Why can you enter santamaria oceanic having not got your clearance, ie on t16 northbound (ends at 40n) but not shanwick southbound.( Jepp oceanic chart refers) I tihnk there might be a link but cant find a reason. Any help out there. Basically santa clearamce limit gets you feet dry in vhf range, but shanwick leaves you floating around in oceanic.

The reason is that the ATC Flight Data Processing System (FDPS) at Shanwick does not extend south of 36N. The Oceanic Planner can only clear you to 40N016W as this is the last position on T16 held within their system.

Once you have entered Shanwick you should receive confirmation on HF of your route south of 40/16, i.e "after 40N016W route via NAVIX SNT".

Shanwick will be replacing their FDPS with a new system in the autumn of 2006 which will resolve this problem and initial clearances to SNT will become the norm for T16 traffic routing south cleared by Shanwick

Hope this helps.

Thanks. More often than not , after cofirming our position report, shanwick use advise to contact santa at 40n, not confirm the onward clearance.,

You may not always get it when you relay your OMOKO position report, but you should get it before you cross 45N.

Good luck!
