Hello

I started my PPL about 3 years ago at 16 and only managed a to clock up a few hours due to financial constraints. Now, a few years later im in the fortunate position of having a secure and well paid career and am looking at starting flying again with the hope of flying as a career (in the very long future). At the moment i want to concentrate on getting my PPL and have been looking at the costs of flying in the South East. Originally i began lessons in the North East. Can anyone recommend any reasonably priced flying schools around London.

Youv'e been here before and know the score what's reasonable to one person may be outrageous to another. Visit the three nearest airfields to where you live, talk to people ask questions. Final decision may be based on a combination of factors (Price, location, feelgood factor).

I fly at Cranfield so I can't really recommend any around london. But try here (http://www.todayspilot.co.uk/ltfg/default.asp) for a list of flying schools in your area.

I'll have a look around. I was considering Cabair as a choice at Biggin Hill or Rochester, however, compared to some other flying schools, they are fairly pricey. Thanks.

I learn't to fly with Surrey & Kent at Biggin Hill, and currently own a PFA type based at Rochester.

Learning at Biggin was great, with the long hard runway, and full ATC. It is expensive to learn there though. High landing fees, and lots of holding/orbiting waiting for traffic.

Rochester is quite different. less formal ATC(AFIS), and fairly bumpy grass runways. Rochester is definately cheaper than Biggin, although I've been told Cabair charge landing fees to their students, even though they don't get charged themselves.

Both Biggin and Rochester have their good and bad points, its what suits you best that's important. Visit some schools, meet some instructors, and form a decision.

Good Luck !!

Take a look at Headcorn / Lashenden.

There's the choice of who to train with and the Tiger Club / Parachuting / Modellers / Balloon launches its certainly rarely boring there.

I did my PPL at Stapleford (http://www.flysfc.com), which is highly recommended. Good instructors, and lots of aircraft giving good availability. They have both grass and hard runways, and are reasonable-priced. They have a busy commercial training department which means that you get a good mix of quiet days and busy days, but not so much that you end up orbiting endlessly as at Biggin.

It would be useful to know which part of London you are living in. That way we can direct you to clubs that are geographically suitable for you :)
