How does one manage to take a excellent 360 photo like that?

Using a camera perfectly levelled on a tripod you take enough 50% overlapped photos to cover the entire 360 and then use the photomerge feature in Photoshop to join them all together.

Thats how I would do it anyways.

I'm not the OP but the usual method is to take lots of photos and join them up using a program like Panorama Factory

or one of the other programs that will stitch photos together. These progs adjust the image for lens distorsion, brightness etc.

The trick is to pick a day when the clouds aren't moving fast.

360 panorama photos...a lot of Nikon digital cameras have built in greatly software that simplifies the overlapping process... and I doubt other brands do too?

Might not have been rush hour... but I hope that the picture taker was too busy then to be worrying about taking pretty pictures?

I know Canon has Photostitch Program bundled on the CD which will join them rather quickly and effortlessly, on whihc note I'll add I am available to come and visit and produce these 360 degree views :O <Hint>

Hi Scott liked the 2nd photo with the weather superimposed on the screen. Do you find it is a good representation of what the pilots ask to deviate around. I see in the top right there is an aicraft sneaking between a couple of cells. Rgds.

Autostitch (http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~mbrown/autostitch/autostitch.html) is the best software I've seen for creating panoramic shots. The Canon software just blurs one shot into the next whereas Autostitch takes care of sorting out the perspective and makes an amazing job of lining things up. The only snag is a slight loss in sharpness, something to do with the guassian filter, apparently..

Generally the weather presentation is pretty good, but it is all historic data as the NEXRAD takes between 6 and 11 minutes to update depending on what mode it is in. But all in all, it is better than nothing <G>...
