Nice photos. Just some observations on the Dauphin winching operations:

1.the gear’s up. Would have thought that the radalt would have told the pilot to lower it. Some discussions previously about lowering the gear to help stabilise the aircraft should it ditch.

2. the aircraft seem to be dangerously close to the mast. Would have though the vessel would have a designated winching area well away from any possible obstructions.

Here's something nobody wants to hapen; engine trouble on short final at a drilling rig over 100 nm from home. Thanks to professional handling of the crew, the aircraft made a safe landing. The engineer was flown in with the hoist. The aircraft was brought home the next day with a ship. (end of 2004)

Looking at the recent pictures of the AS365 I wonder about the engines air-intakes. The ones I've seen before has a straight intake in front of the engine but on these helicopters it looks to be on the side with lots of small holes, why is this?
My own guess is either lower noise or some sort of water-protection, like snow-baffles on a 206, but please tell me the real reason.

OK, we get the idea that you liked the Schreiner operations in Holland in the last couple of years, but as the title is about Schreiner from more than 25 years ago, don't you have any more of old Schreiner operations and bases outside Holland, like Chile, Indonesia, India, Nigeria and cameroon?

I am a very proud Schreiner alumni from 1974 until 1979 having flown in Indonesia, Iran and the Netherlands flying both helicopter, and I am ashamed to admit in this forum, airplanes. These photographs bring back so many memories. I have hundreds of photos I would love to add, but they are all slides and I don't have a means to convert them to digital photos.

One anecdote, Dr. Slager and I had an interesting Psychology interview when I first applied to Schreiner. I had studied the Psychology at University so knew how to best answer many of his questions and it was great fun for me torturing him (I thought). I met Dr. Slager at an HAI convention many years later. When I walked up and re-introduced myself he didn't seem to recognize me. I was disappointed. I said to him "Dr. Slager, don't you recognize me?". He walked around behind me and then in front and with many Schreiner alumni within earshot said, "Oh yes, Rich Lee, the asshole."

As an ex-Schreiner pilot myself, I must admit I don't like seeing all the fixed-wing photos, especially as the Airbus caused so many financial problems for the company. I know it's all part of the Schreiner heritage, but can we just have helicopters from now on, and preferably some shots of more of the overseas bases, not just Den Helder and Rotterdam. Surely some of the ex-Schreiner Rotorheads out there must have some photos of Chile, India, Indonesia or Iran, all bases where so many Schreiner pilots cut their teeth, especially when KLM practically forced them out of the North Sea?
TC. The Twin Otters and the Dash 8's have worked alongside the helicopters for many years in places like Nigeria, Cameroun and Tchad, so they probably deserve a special place even on a Rotorheads forum, so don't be too hard on spheri. :cool:

the FW photos are only there because of the people who worked with it (I am a absolute rotor guy, never flew FW, only as pax for holliday or work). Some transfered to rotarywing and are great collegues! So have a look at it and enjoy the Orange!!

What a superb gallery!!!

I used to obtain overflight and landing permits for Schreiner / ACN.
It is nice to see pictures of some of the actual aircraft - both rotary
and fixed wing that I have dealt with in the past. Started dealing with SAW/ ACN back in 1986...

All those ferries down to Lagos via west coast- numerous delays and clearance applications!!!

Names that come to mind Bernard Rexwinkel, Capts Singh, Williams, Anjourin, Patrick Ogunlowo, Chima, Berend Peek - apologies to those that I have forgotten.

Borstbeeld Bob Schreiner onthuld op Rotterdam Airport

ROTTERDAM - Donderdagmiddag (22 juni) is op Rotterdam Airport een bronzen borstbeeld van luchtvaartpionier Bob Schreiner onthuld. Schreiner, grondlegger van de Schreiner Groep, koos in 1964 voor Rotterdam Airport als thuisbasis voor zijn luchtvaartactiviteiten. Het borstbeeld werd onthuld door zijn kleinzoon Olivier Schreiner en luchthavendirecteur Roland Wondolleck.

Bob Schreiner wordt gerekend tot de ware Nederlandse luchtvaartpioniers uit de vorige eeuw. Hij wist zich verdienstelijk te maken door het vliegtuig voor velerlei doeleinden te benutten en bouwde aan een luchtvaartbedrijf dat tegenwoordig wereldwijd is vertegenwoordigd. Het bedrijf is nu een onderdeel van het Canadese CHC.

Schreiner Airways vooral bekend vanwege de helikoptervluchten ten behoeve van de activiteiten in de Rotterdamse haven en het Botlekgebied, zoals het vervoer van loodsen van en naar zeeschepen en van bemanningen van olieplatforms in de Noordzee. Bob Schreiner overleed in 1994 op 79-jarige leeftijd.

Rich Lee's story of his encounter with the Schreiner physcologist reminds me of my own.

He gave me a series of "paint blotches" to look for a shape in. I was doing okay with nothing too bizarre when he handed me a really interesting one.

I rotated it left then right then inverted it. After several attempts it was clear that this only resembled one thing whichever way you turned it. Female genitalia. After another half minute I declared that I had no idea about this one. Not sure what he made of that!!!!!

He went on to ask me to draw a tree, draw a tree in winter, draw a magic tree.

A bloody magic tree!!!! I drew a cloud with a tree on it with hanging candelabra.

What a job, getting paid for absolute shi*e.

Oh they did offer me a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jean Paul Ledour lots his licence many years ago after a fall from a horse. Last that I heard he was retired in France.
Charles de Mannoury last heard of flying Dash 8 in Tchad.

AFAIK Peter Weiss retired about 3 years ago when he was replaced as Engineering Manager of Aero Contractors.

As has been reported on What's New in West Africa, the EC225s are likely to sit in the Eurocopter hangar in Marignane for a while as the future of CHC/Aero is sorted out. I fully agree about the colour scheme. The Ibru family (owners of Aero) got really annoyed about CHC painting all aircraft in their colour scheme complete with 'flying chicken' and ordered that they all be repainted in the much more distinctive, original Schreiner/Aero livery. There are still some helicopters sporting that in Port Harcourt and 5N-BGN was recently repainted in (almost) the old colours. It's much prettier, more distinctive and easier to see - and (as you say) keeps the ghost of Schreiner (which was a much better company) alive :ok: I hope we'll see them in Nigeria before too long and the lovely paint job will help to expunge the memory of the CHC paint job, which anyway is far too similar to the equally nasty Bristow one (Pan African looks so much more distinguished :})

I worked for Schreiner at Warri but mainly Port Harcourt in the late 70s. Steve Borrowdale was the chief at Warri and Kieth Welch at PH. Peter Wilson was flying the Puma and we had a wonderful ex Foreign Legion pilot by the name of Piere Legalle (sp). There was also Bill Ennet and his wife Goody who I have long lost track of since they returned to the US.
My addled old brain is forgetting too many other names.
I will always remember the gang there and Shreiner with great fondness.

.. and for those who may have known Charles Schmit, ex Heli-Union I believe. He mentions many acquaintaces with Schreiner's Iran operation. Last time I saw him he was doing Consultancy with the Indian DGCA. He's in his 80s from what I gathered.
