Ive been flying the 737 for a few months now and after a few minutes in the seat I get a really bad muscular pain in my left hamstring area. My right leg is fine. Ive tried adjusting all the seat heights/lumbars, stretching my legs, folding them etc etc but all to no avail.

Has anyone come across this before...any ideas for a cure.?

Cheers

I get stiff knees if on a 3 hour or longer flight!!!! Take a walk to the back!!!
Maybe something to do with your circulation. Do you exercise often?

You may find you might have trapped a nerve(i.e. sciatic; excuse the spelling).

Go to a Chriopractor, Osteopath. In our jobs its not worth trying to self diagnose. leave it to the experts.

Haven't flown the 737 sibnce 1973, but I seem to remember adjustable thigh supports on the seats ? If there, make sure you don't have the thigh supports pulled up so far that they affect the circulation in the blood vessels in the backs of your legs.

As an FO I had a numb left bum cheek, now it's the right cheek. I need about two days to get over it after five days flying! Might be age creeping up on me but it seems to have been this way for years!

I'd get it chopped off if i were you. It'll ache for a couple of days but then you won't even notice it's not there...:E :E :E

If it's one one of those nagging cramps - try upping your potassium levels.

I used to get eye-watering cramps when I first started flying until somebody recommended that to me.

You should also increase your flexibility and mobility if you can - go running, take up yoga or a martial art even.

Good luck :ok:

I had a recurring problem of my right leg becoming numb and painful on a regular basis and couldn't understand why as nothing had changed. Then one day I forgot my wallet at home (which I usually carry in my right back pocket) and lo and behold, no problem!

Now this was not caused because i had suddenly gotten a pay increase that made my wallet fatter, in fact it was because the company changed uniform supplier and it turned out that the "new" uniform pants had their backpocket in a slightly different position which resulted in my weight sitting on the wallet putting pressure on a nerve in my leg, hence the pain. From there onwards whenever I sat down in the seat I put my wallet into my flightbag and the problem was solved.

At one time on the 737 I found my suspender belt clips use to bite into my thighs. Wearing tights solved the problem.

"take a walk down the back" yeah and carry on walking straight to the p45 desk. Not in this day and age i'm afraid.

Yorkshire, so happy memories, I know it well. I've been up and down the dales. Do you know Mr. Dale? Such a nice man, he helped me so much to obtain my PPL and then my CPL.

I had trouble with my CPL until he introduced me to his friend, very nice man who said he worked for the ACA or AAC or something like that. Anyway he gave me a slip of paper (confounded me) and now I fly big birds!!!!!

Cool or what?

Thanks for the replies folks.
I'll try all the various bits of advice.
It is a numbing muscular type pain..like a dead leg but it defo aint anything to do with a big wallet !! not in our airline !!! ha ha.....

Anyways...laughter is the best medicine.

Cheers.....
