HAGATNA, Guam (AP) - The nose landing gear of a passenger jet collapsed on a runway while taxiing Friday, injuring three people and forcing the shutdown of Guam's main airport, officials said.

Northwest Airlines Flight 74 from Narita, Japan, with 318 passengers and 16 crew members aboard, was pulling into a gate at Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport when the gear collapsed, airport spokeswoman Rolenda Faasuamalie said.

The passengers and crew exited the Boeing 747 by emergency chutes. Only one of the injured was hospitalized with minor injuries, Guam Gov. Felix Camacho said.

Arriving flights were rerouted to Andersen Air Force Base on Guam and to Saipan in the neighboring Northern Mariana Islands. Guam's airport was expected to reopen later Friday after another runway is put into service, Faasuamalie said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the accident.

A Northwest Airlines Boeing 747-200 (N627US) inbound from Tokyo-Narita had to make an unexpected landing in Guam International Airport. While landing the nose gear collapsed and the Jumbo came to a screeching halt. Witnesses report 4 emergency slides have been used for evacuation. Aboard the plane were 318 passengers (including 7 infants), 3 pilots and 13 flight attendants. 3 of the passengers got injured but the severity of the injuries are unknown. The airport is officially closed as the runway is blocked, the 7 scheduled flights are diverted to Andersen Air Force Base or to Saipan International Airport.

Sounds like a good journo remark.

Aircraft is on a taxi way. Nose gear collapsed whilst taxiing after landing.

Looks like she is sitting at the end of the runway after landing on 06L.

The turnoff onto taxiway J is just ahead on the left side of the a/c with the terminal in the background.

GUM has two parallel runways. The longer is 06L/24R about 10,000' and the shorter is about 8,000'. There are no parallel taxiways to these runways.

Coincidences? :ugh:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/08/21/ap/business/mainD8C3SMRG0.shtml

Saturday afternoon, four tires blew out on a Northwest Airlines jet as it landed at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. A second Northwest jet made an emergency landing at Detroit's Metro Airport a few hours later after flight attendants reported smoke in the cabin. No injuries were reported in either incident, Northwest spokeswoman Jennifer Bagdade said.

A statement from the airline said the blown tires were likely caused by "an anti-skid braking issue" and had nothing to do with the strike. The airline said the smoke in the cabin appeared to be caused by a problem with an air conditioning system, and the smoke cleared when the crew turned off the system.

Northwest's union mechanics walked out rather than take pay cuts and layoffs that would reduce their ranks almost by half. They don't believe replacement workers will be able to maintain the fleet, the oldest among domestic airlines.

You are right Traffic, seems he was about to enter taxiway J at the end of the 10,000' 06L runway so it obviously happened during taxy. Cheers, HD.

V1r8: On the contrary.
I landed and rolled past the same 757 you described, which was parked on a high-speed exit by runway 22R. 22R is at least 10,000' or so. We took the next high-speed exit and used taxiways Alpha and Quebec (the one-way taxiway).

The plane had all landing gear fully extended and there were numerous maintenance people with equipment around it.
