Threatened closure of Colmar aerodrome, Alsace, France

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello there,

The airport at Colmar Houssen is currently threatened with closure and urgently needs support. It is apparently the only H24 aerodrome in Alsace. If you feel able to help then read the attachment below.

Cheers,

Trapper 69

Good evening, Thank you for your support for the airport for Colmar. I transmitted your email of support to Joelle Gerard, he is responsible for the Airport of Colmar-Houssen ([email protected] or [email protected]). He has fought against the closing of the aerodrome for many years and he collects the emails and supporting letters against the closing of Colmar. Could you disseminate this information in the British aviation magazines and website forums?

Bonsoir,
A bientôt l’ami,

Eric,
Encore en Anglais. Merci a "Babel".
Felicitations,

Messieurs,

I am an English aviator of light aircraft and would like to support the vital need for an aerodrome to serve the Alsace region. You have the aerodrome at COLMAR HOUSSEN which is open H24 and available for both private and commercial flights along with sporting aviation. It should be preserved for future generations of the inhabitants of Alsace and for the many tourists who wish to visit the region.

Kind regards,

Good evening, make a repeat broadcast with all your lists of pilots, reviews and forums: HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: LIKED of the "DIRECTING DIAGRAM COLMAR the RHINE the VOSGES is the logical continuation", that Ci gathered 63 communes of which that of Colmar and from which the goal was to prepare the future in a general way with a certain coherence on the urban and environmental level. the directing diagram having been adopted, each commune can thus set up its own local PLU(plan of town planning), in order to finalize communal installations wish and which were validated by the "directing diagram" for COLMAR, to become to it airport makes has new part of this LIKED, which thus wishes the transformation of the airport zone into zone of activity we must has new to intervene, for the same reasons as for the directing diagram, but this time Ci directly has the town hall of Colmar 2 different means: 1:se to return in town hall, office 212, 2nd stage, and to write in the put book has dispo people 2: to send a mail for those which cannot move it is desirable that a maximum of mails arrive in town hall of Colmar, before August 30, 2005 the address: LOCAL PLAN Of TOWN PLANNING Town hall of Colmar place town hall 68 000 COLMAR the arguments are the same ones as for the directing diagram one is against the transformation of the airport zone into zone of activity it is asked that the zone of aerodrome be maintained has strict vocation "aeronautical" COLMAR HOUSSEN is the only civil ground of the Alsace center, open h24, are undertaken use it, it thus has a vocation of aviation of business the general aviation is present, sporting aviation too. no transfer is envisaged etc. each one will be able to develop its own arguments Thank you to prevent the max of club neighbours, the max of pilots for mails make a repeat broadcast with all your lists of pilots, reviews and forums on behalf of Olivier Alméras chair assosiation of defense of the aerodrome

Bonsoir,

A few facts.

Colmar is not an H24 airport. The French AIP refers.

Alsace is well served with H24 airports (if that is actually the point at issue), with Strasbourg being the most obvious.

The Town Council of Colmar (which is the body attempting to close the airport), has recently lost a legal battle in which it was judged to be unlawfully ignoring a commitment that it has to the French state to run an airport at least until 2011 on the site.

This is not to suggest that the airport is not under threat. However, facts need to be straight if foreigners are going to to write letters of complaint with any kind of authority.

Similarly, it is useful if complainers have actually been to the airport and can cite regular visits. Complaints from people who have never been, and are unlikely to visit will end up in the bin in my experience of French process.

Trinny,
A stylish riposte however Eric Janssonne is a good cyberspace friend who is on the spot. If he wants assistance in keeping Colmar open for use then I am only too pleased to help. I was reliant on the request for assistance in his own language as translated by Babel with judicious editing by me. As you seem to have current knowledge of the area perhaps you might care to write. Any potential airfield loss these days is a tragedy, as I am sure you will agree.
Cheers,

Nobody could disagree.

However...a flurry of semi-literate ill-informed letters of support from Brits who have never been there are of dubious value, and may well be cited as evidence that the "pro-" camp have been resorting to desperate lengths to support a flimsy case.

Those who are complaining about the airfield have two particular gripes which the local clubs have been somewhat slow to respond to.

1) Large numbers of private aircraft operate on a waiver outside published hours under French Night VFR, disturbing local residents

2) Large amounts of aerobatic practice are carried out in the vicinity of the airport, with the resultant noise pollution

A little compromise would take much of the local heat out of the situation.

Sadly though, the CCI which runs the field makes no money from it, but is bound to operate the field until 2011. Beyond that date, things looks rather negative. If you really want to help - fly over and visit the place. That is what it actually needs.

Trinny,
I only wish I could visit the aerodrome however my NPPL(SSEA) turns into a pumpkin at the FIR boundary so the Skybolt must remain in UK airspace, at least with me in command.
Having read your post I can see how the local flyers could do quite a lot to reduce the level of local opposition by small changes in their operating procedures. At Leicester there is also a fair bit of aerobatic practice but we do try to avoid giving one spot too much of a bashing.
I have often wondered just how so many aerodromes in France operated by the local Chambers of Commerce manage to exist financially with either low or zero landing fees.
It sounds as though you might be a regular visitor so would have a vested interest in keeping the aerodrome open beyond 2011.
