A pilot and two cabin crew from Garuda (Indonesian national airline) have all been implicated in the in-flight murder of a passenger flying with the company from Jakarta to Amserdam last September. The murdered man, Munir Said Thalib, was a prominent civil rights activist who has publicly criticised the Indonesian government and their armed forces over persistent human rights abuses. The allegations against the airline staff centre round the claim that a glass of orange juice served on a flight was laced with arsenic. The pilot, Pollycarpus Priyanto, who was off-duty during the flight, is the first suspect to be charged over Munir's death. He denies all charges. The two cabin crew will be tried at a later stage.
