Could a MAN tower controller please advise on the following issue?
For late evening departures, say post 2200z, there appears to be only one controller in the tower but responsible for delivery, ground, and 'tower'. As such they transmit on all three frequencies, so would you prefer pilots to ask for initial clearance on 118.625 seeing as it's the same controller as if you called on 121.7? Or, would you rather we stayed with the standard 121.7 and then wait for the controller's request to change to 118.625, presumably the advantage of this is that pilots do not 'block' the active runway frequency with long ATC clearance requests and readbacks?
Thanks for any information!
