Micro-Jets (also known as VLJs) are about to fill the skies. This article in Flight International (http://www.eclipseaviation.com/inthenews/detail_05.htm?content_id=821) points out how pervasive they may become over the next few years.

I wonder if anyone is studying their impact on the ATC system. It looks like they'll be operating at all the usual flight-levels at speeds in the M.65 - M.70 range. That should be fun!

Also, these little jets will be operating from small airports not along current route structures. It appears some big changes for ATC are just over the horizon!

Marion Blakey, FAA Administrator has stated that there is no way the FAA ATC system can be scaled up to cater for the onslaught of these aircraft and the ICAO and IATA "road maps" for the next twenty years concentrate on life as it is. Stand by for automated cockpit based ATC, if there is a need it will be developed.
