After spending most of last week in bed with a stinking cold, I'd been in two minds whether to travel up to Old Warden for the show on Saturday. However, since the weather was so nice it seemed daft not to.

I'm so glad that I made the effort, because Saturday's show was wonderful. The golden glow infused both the view and the spirit to create an atmosphere unique to Old Warden summer evening shows. The long-awaited first display flight of the recently restored Sopwith Pup was everything that the crowd had looked forward to, but I'll stop waxing lyrical and let the photos describe the rest of the show.

Old Warden evening shows have a charm that's sadly lacking at other, larger venues and this was a real tonic after the push and shove at Duxford the weekend before. We've got a few more evening shows left in the season, so if you've not had the pleasure of going to one of these shows, you can come along and see for yourselves.

See the Shuttleworth Collection Website for details (http://wwww.shuttleworth.org)

Once again, a great big thankyou to all the staff, volunteers and pilots whose efforts ensured that Saturday's show was so much fun.

It took several attempts to capture the shadow of the Hawker Hind in the arc of the sunset shining on the propellor.

Saturday saw the first display flight of the Sopwith Pup in it\'s new RNAS balloon busting markings. The Pup will fly with the Le Prieur rockets attached at a later date.

After a short interval to allow visiting \'planes to depart before dark, the Edwardian flying machines were wheeled out. The still evening air suits these aeroplanes, although it\'s far more of a challenge to photograph them in the poor light.

Rob thanks for that series of simply stunning photos.

There's just nothing like a soft English summers evening the serenity of which your photographs evoked beautifully.

Australia just has nothing like it.

I hope you dont mind but I'll have to send some of them rough colonial oiks up from Dunnunda to have a decko at this. :}

If they get too rowdy just send em packing.

Its not been tested with the rockets on yet Hairyclam as far as i am aware, i believe it is in the near future though, it may effect the aircrafts handling qualities.

.... and it won't 'alf whistle!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. That Hind shot is something I'd like another crack at, I'm sure that I can get a better result out of it.
