U.S. plane makes emergency landing in Iran:-
TEHRAN | June 19, 2005 4:11:20 PM IST

Iran said a U.S. Northwest Airlines flight originating in Bombay made an emergency landing in an Iranian airport at dawn Sunday.

The official Islamic Republic News Agency quoted civil aviation spokesman Reza Jaafarzadeh as saying that the DC-10 aircraft, with 255 passengers on board, landed at Mahrabad International Airport.

He said the aircraft, flying from Bombay to Amsterdam, had technical problems in the luggage section and was forced to make an emergency landing.

Jaafarzadeh added the American flight will depart with its passengers after fixing the malfunction and ensuring the safety of the plane.

Iran and the United States have had no relations since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

They had a false fire warning in the belly. They arrived in Amsterdam with an 8 hour delay.

Glad it wasn't the other way round... could have been another Vincennes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655).

The DC 10 I used to fly had a cargo smoke warning - rather than a fire warning.

The main difference is you don't have twin loops (because smoke warnings don't use loops) and so have to believe the warning.

It could also be set off by dusty or steaming cargo.
