Does anyone know the UK CAA's (or JAA) requirements to become a Flight Instructor instructor (to teach FI(A) courses at an approved FTO)?

You need to have 500 hours instruction, then contact your NAA to find out what system they have for authorisation.

In the UK, after application, you complete a day at a flight test centre, then subject to an endorsement from that selection process, attend a 2 day course with an FIE; then take a FIC test with an FIE who will either be one of the FIEs/CAA FEs who ran the selection interviews, or be nominated by them. On satisfactory completion of the test you receive a non expiring authorisation.
