As most news stories have switched to the Michael Jackson story,
here is an update.

At approx 4pm EST a DC3 Cargo plane enroute from Ft.Lauderdale Executive airport to the neighbouring islands, IE The Bahamas crashed in a residential area near NE56th St and
17th Ave in Fort Lauderdale. 1 pilot and two passengers reported ok. Plane burnt out with tail and engines and front
of cockpit only recognizable parts. No fatalities reported at this
time....

There are a lot of pictures here (http://www.nbc6.net/news/4603028/detail.html) .

From the squared wingtips and tail, I would say it looks like a C-117D (Super DC-3).

The pictures show the fuselage gutted by fire, but the aircraft is otherwise all there, so it looks like the accident may have been survivable. Hope the crew made it out and nobody on the ground was hurt!

Spag,

Local news is reporting that the crew did indeed get out and
no fatalities on the ground.
Unconfirmed if two or three people on the aircraft as Channel 6 WTVJ is report two and Channel 4 WFOR is reporting three.

Well if they had managed to land the plane a little to the right and still get out safely, while making as big an explosion as possible, maybe the nightmares will stop.:ugh: :ugh: :ugh:

R4D-8 FLL (http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_id=20050621X00818&key=1)

Left prop failed to feather - nose case problem?

Either that, or a fractured feather oil line, barit1, or a governor problem.
With this type or aircraft, or for that matter, any piston or turbopropellor aircraft, where the prop fails to feather, is in a heap of trouble...and no where else to go but, down.

Bad news indeed.:uhoh:

What a contrast with the Pinnacle outcome....

My first flying job was copilot on a BE-18 out of Birmingham, Alabama. The captain was about 70 years old. As we taxied onto the runway on a hot steamy day with a max gross takeoff weight, he looked over at me and said, "Sonny, we lose an engine, we're putting this f#cker down on First Avenue. Got it?"

This one really does look like it missed the orphanage.
