To add to the chaos in Nigeria yesterday, a B727 skidded off the end of R/W18L at Lagos in the early afternoon. It would appear that no-one was hurt, but no idea as to the state of the a/c, which was at rightangles to the r/w, and around 200m off the end. The airfield was subsequently closed for around 4 hours. When I went in and out yesterday evening, the disabled a/c was causing problems in that all arrivals had to be on 18L (ILS) due weather, but departures off 36R.

The aircraft was finally towed out of the rwy36L threshold end by past four yesterday afternoon after making another 'temporary taxiway' out of the grass to the existing taxiway. Rumour had it that the two Captains-Chanchagi 727 & EAS 737-licenses has been suspended for three months prio to the outcome of the investigation of both incedents by the apprioprate authorities! Wonders the say will never end.I think the crew concerned should be given fair judgement. The air traffic in Lagos has since returned back to 'normal'
