Antonov 225 VS A380

Origin Ukraine France

Capacity Created to lift cargo up to
250tonnes (but if converted to 500-800
commercial airlines =1000-1500)

Distant ~8000 miles(depends on cargo weight) ????

Engine Made by an ukranian company
6 engines, 30,000lb of thrust ????

Fuel 260tonnes ????

Body Length = round 250feet if not mistaken ????
Wingspan = round 207 feet.

Cost ??? ????

HI there all :-)
As a person who is aspired in aviation and hope one day will be accepted as a cadet i would like to know something from this Antonov and A380. I just manage to grab few info of antonov and A380. Hope all of you can help me to add more information regarding both of this SUPERJUMBO airplanes! :-) seriously i was really amazed when i Antonov with its 18 wheels took off and the twin engine A380 took off recently! Even though now most airlines are going for medium capacity and Long Range airplanes we still need to salute the engineering feat of this two gigantious planes !

The A380 might be assembled in France, but with British wings, engines and many other minor parts it has been calculated to be about 60% British.

Dimensions: should all be quoted in metres these days..

An225 span 88.4m length 84m

A380 span 79.8m length 73m

They're really quite different animals. The A380 is designed to meet Aerodrome Code 'F' requirements for taxiways and to fit on a stand 80m x 80m. Hopefully it will also be able to use standard Category 4 runways 45m wide with shoulders. I believe this latter is awaiting ICAO ratification but shouldn't be a problem.

The An225 is much more of a challenge to accommodate on civil aerodromes; best bet is probably to park it on a Code 'E' taxiway if you can afford to shut one, but a bit of a problem to fuel it, then. Does it come with its own towbar? Anyone in the UK worked one on the ground? I've done the An124, used a stand-and-a-half, but not a problem otherwise.

The AN225 certainly comes with its own towbar as does the AN12/22/124's operated by ADB.

There is no problem fuelling the 225 as it can be hydrant or bowser tanked. MRYIA has operated into PIK and there was no problem there, EMA are ok with the aircarft as are MAN, although STN won't let the aircraft due to the small size of the airfield and the wings impinging on the runway when on the taxyways. MRYIA also has operated into a lot of European airfields with no problems. The footprint is also lot less than a747!!

Altogether a fairly versatile aircraft with a second one under construction. The 380 also has a problem in that it does not have a nose door ala 747 and will load through two side doors. The 225 with a nose door and kneeling nosewheels can load direct onto the aircarft without the need for highloaders.

Not that I am biast of course but the 380 will be OK with the likes of UPS etc but it will never compete withthe 225 :)

I believe that the Antonov has 32 wheels if Iīm not mistaken!

I once worked on loading two Mi-17 helicopterīs into an An-124 in Prague. They had 4 reserve wheels (tires on rims) with them. I guess taking a few extra wheels makes no difference in an airplane this size.
