This is weird. I have heard about this accident a couple of times yesterday but when looking through the media websites, the airports own site and AAIB site, there has been absolutely no mention of this at all anywhere. Guess I will have to wait til the AAIB Bulletin thumps onto my doorstep to see what went on, as no-one seems to know anything about it in the usual channels.

Just arrived at LCY this afternoon.

There was a Darwin SAAB parked by the GA area.

Didn't pay any attention to it, so can't comment on any evidence of a fire etc.

As always - press play a blinder!

1. There was no Accident
2. The aircraft was on stand (I believe) when the incident occurred.
3. Within 7 minutes or so everything was back to normal.

I was vectoring a D328 as number 2 when we were informed - aircraft was held off (he was at 6nm n the ILS) whilst the fire service checked things out (Initially there was no fire cover for the inbound traffic following the incident and initial investigation)

Fairly quickly normal service was resumed.

Well done to the D328 crew who were very understanding. I told them they couldn't commence an approach and would vector them over London (10 in use) and asked if there was anything they wanted to see!!! Had a good 7 or 8 minutes giving them headings around the zones. An absolutely beautiful gin clear sunny day over London with no cloud. The pax must have loved it! The crews seemed happy as I pointed out things to see!!

All on LCY's busiest day with 304 movements I believe. (Would have been 305!!!)

What's the average movements per day? (Mon-Fri as obviously reduced opening at weekends)

I presume the above is tosh & it was an orderly evacuation?

No emergency landing.
No engine fire.
Loss of oil produced a lot of smoke when part of no.1 generator destroyed itself.
Not sure about the evacuation being orderly.

Certainly nothing worthy of media coverage.

Departed lunchtime today for Basel (presume S.2000 maintenance base) after doing plenty of ground engine runs that nicely woke up those of us who live to the north of the airfield and fancied a Sunday morning lie-in ! Cue Mrs WHBM :) (making a rare appearence here on PPRuNe) with "What on earth is that plane doing over at the airport ......"

An oil leak on engine 1, causing plenty of smoke but no fire.
However, not an orderly evacuation. Passengers jumping from the door to the ground and running from the aircraft. One woman fell flat on her face out of the 1m+ door. Was working on the adjacent stand at the time.
