ATPL exams/CPL SEP FI(R)?

ie would a school take me on as an instructor without multi/IR ratings?
Still trying to decide if it is feasible to become an Instructor as a job and make enough money to pay rent and beer tokens...

Cheers

You certainly could get a job with those qualifications. In fact a number of schools may prefer you with those qualifications at it shows you are not about to jump ship as soon as an airline position appears.

Absolutely. ME is not a requirement, neither is an IR.

However, although it's not necessary, either an IMC rating or an IR will help with instructing. Examples would be that when teaching the introduction to instrument flying you would be able to take your students into real clouds. Also, on a bad-weather day, you may still be able to do some instructing: teaching nav-aids in IMC (as long as the student has already done a bit of instrument flying) is quite nice. And then there are days when it may be IMC at the airfield, but you can get on top very easilly and instruct just about any lesson on top.

Does anyone know what the requirements are for teaching abroad? presemably with a JAR FI you can teach across europe but what about going over to the states, do you still need a FAA license to teach at one of the schools that specialise in JAA training?

Yup if you go to the States I believe you will require an FAA CFI at the very minimum. However you also need an FAA CPL/IR to be eligible for an FAA CFI rating...

To teach the FAA Instrument Rating then a CFII rating is required and if you'd like to teach on Multi engine aeroplanes then an FAA MEI is required.
