Guys any tips on buying and owning a Bulldog.

Firstly, I'd want to ascertain that it came from folk who really loved the breed and were not just trying to turn a quick buck from knocking out lots of pups.

I'd then insisit on seeing both sire and dam and checking pedigrees..................

Talk to the Pup and Bulldog owners group. They should have a good idea what to buy and will explain FI114 to you.

Does anyone know if the control columns on a Bulldog are still expired on time rather than condition?

May not be a total waste of time to check out the Beagle & Bulldog Owners Club (http://www.beaglepupandbulldogclub.org/) - probably get some good pointers there!

I must say, A&C, that without meeting you, I'm already beginning to hate you - nothing personal, just jealousy!! :* :} :D As an instructor in the ATC, I've had some great trips in Bulldogs (once even got 55 mins of aeros!! Almost :yuk: :D) - it really is a sweet, well-balanced aircraft that seems to land on rails. When all the ex-MOD dogs were for sale, I was sorely tempted, but got put off by 2 things:

- Maintenance costs (I was being quoted scary figures for cockpit transparencies as an example)

- Airframe life (this was before DH Support Ltd and BAE were quoting silly money to re-certify the airframe to extend its life)

It is, at the end of the day, a 2 seater - is this REALLY what you want and can't I just buy it for you??!! ;)

Good luck!

Just looked at the Flyer thread, £1500 to overhaul the Fatigue meter every 3 years. Thats 6 hours in an Extra.

You could also have a word with Ultimate High, who own some.

Flik, How much are they per hour if you own them? You get 3 hours per year free just for the fatigue meter and with UH you probably get some of the best instruction going.

Anyway forget the bulldog, save up and fly the Extra, 20 mins in the extra is easily an hour in the dog given its 3000fpm climb rate. You can do aeros on the way up as well as the way down.

And always remember , if it flies floats or fu*** its always cheaper to rent it.

As a uni student I wouldn't own(!!), but I found UH's extras to be better value for money and an excellent experience at that! :ok:

As a stude I was in dispear when our club a/c hit over £90per hour wet :{

Airborne_artist, , what did you do with the propellor (or is this the secret jet version capable of single engine climb).

More likely, what did the current owner do with the prop?

You didn't think RAF Leeming would have had weeds growing next to the hangar doors, did you?

It's imitating one of the Grobs the RAF bought to replace it! :E

BRL: Nice pic of Charlie Bravo! Hope to be back in the air in it again soon.
