Does anyone know if simulator time (specifically B747 classic)
can be purchased just for 'recreation' in the UK preferably London area.

Not sure if that sort of thing is permitted after 9-11 but I thought it would be a nice birthday present for my father who is a retired
airline pilot (and has ID to verify) if necessary.

Thanks for your help.

Spare BA simulator capacity can be bought through Virtual Aviation.

Have a look at www.virtualaviation.co.uk.

I have used them to buy A320 sim time in the past - not for fun though (but it was!). However BA sims are expensive.

European at Bournemouth have an ex-BA 747 Classic that may be available. Again I have used European's 727 and TriStar sims.

is this "virtual aviation" company any good by the way?
I am thinking of having a crack at the simulator, but it seems very expensive, and I wasn't impressed by their extortionate remarks about their simulator time being a "must" if you want that job!

Flown an ex British Airways B732 sim here (http://www.yorkshireflightcentre.co.uk/). Very respectable prices compared to Virtual Aviation.

Also the setup there is very friendly and welcoming, I would give it a try. I found it to be a very worthwhile experience!

... just for those who are interested (it's not a B747 sim) a MD80 sim is available for so called fun flights close to Frankfurt, Germany. I know not in the UK and also not in the London area, but take FR to Frankfurt-Hahn and the bus to Frankfurt and you will get there.

Their website is here: http://sim-zone.de/ only in German but you can have a look at it!
