Could anyone explain the difference between a KT-76A and a KT-76A TSO? Is there a difference, from the point of of swapping one for the other?

Thanks in anticipation. (Yes, I know I should buy a mode S!).

The TSO'd version has been through the necessary testing/certification program for it to be permissable in an N-registered non-experimental aircraft. In practice, this tends to almost guarantee its acceptability in a Cof A aircraft on the UK register.

Non-TSO'd equipment has not been certificated to meet the standards necessary for installation in a normal category N-reg aircraft, and may or may not be approved for installation in a G-reg. Check with your avionics engineer before fitting any avionics in your aircraft.

I don't recall there being any problem fitting the non-TSO'd KT76A in a G-reg but it would be wise to check.

Thanks for the reply 2D. Do you mind another question:

What's the difference between the KT-76 and the KT-76A?

The "A" model is slightly later with a few (internal) improvements. I can't tell you off the top of my head what those improvements are.

The KT 76 uses old old digital tech.
The kt 76A uses a microprocesser for the pulse and ALT settings.

No problem in installing Non TSO KT76A in G reg.
Note- the KT76 is NOT interchangable with the KT76A.
