While waiting in T1 LHR on Thursday 5th May at about 11.00am I was treated to a BA 747 G-CIVJ being welcomed home by the fire dept who created an arch for the plane to taxi through with their fire hoses. It looked great and filled a gap.

Was this a special occasion, did the plane need a wash, can I request the same treatment the next time I arrive at heathrow?

18 greens,

I believe one of the flight crew (probably the captain) was on his/her last flight (due to retirement). My father had the same thing done for him a few years ago when he did his last flight.

Then again...perhaps the plane needed a wash up...

Cheers!

Whoever the Captain was - if he reads this I wish him many happy years in retirement.
