And the overshoot isn't much fun either.
They also have a "Checkerboard" similar Kai Tak, however when I was there it had slipped down the mountain in a monsoon storm. Fortunately I did not see it and try to use it.
There is a great sense of satisfaction when safely on the ground and the wheels are chocked, just need to change the underwear.
This photo is taken at the very moment you level out after a 180 deg descending turn, immediately behind the aircraft is a mountain similar to the one on the "overshoot"
For those who don't know the area, WMBT is Tioman Island about 20 minutes (in a C172) off the coast of Malaysia in the South China Sea.
The go-around decision is made in the turn, you just keep on going round and out over the sea.

Here's another place where you do not try a go-around !
Monument Valley airstrip in the States.
And that bit of tarmac is the runway, not the taxiway! Plus it is only the last part for the roll out as the majority is dirt strip before that portion. You will not be surprised to learn that you take off in the opposite direction !
Great place to visit and I would recommend it to those of you contemplating flying around the Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon areas on holiday trips.

:hmm: OK you lot, I was going to save the big guns til another time, BUT if you want interesting approaches, not to mention landings, then you will just have to head off to the backcountry strips in Idaho.

We went touring around here last summer and it is truly unbelievable. You can see a good selection on this site:

We managed Johnson Creek and Smiley Creek amoung others, but most of these awesome strips are out of our league until we return to do one of the backcountry flying seminars.
I think it's great that all my years of flying and the thousands of hours count for nothing out here. If you look around, flying can still get as challenging as you like no matter what your background. Where are all these bored PPL's ?!

There are a few interesting air strips in the film "Air America", one of which is almost unbelievable.
