Go to http//maps.google.com (http://maps.google.com)
Search for "Little a'Le Inn Rachel Nevada" Click on 'Satellite' at top right of page.

When the picture comes up, scroll west to a large white patch and zoom in. see the air base by the dry salt lake ?

Anyone know what it is ?

Many of those who frequent this site will be used to seeing the world from above.

I had no idea google had such a gizmo and have just spent a very pleasant 10 mins taking a tour of the kennedy space centre using the same search tool.

Absolutely no possibility that this is Groom Lake at all, sir. It doesn't exist, particularly the runway. There's nothing there, sir. Nothing whatsoever. Air Force, what Air Force is that, sir? :E

I found this google map the other day. Some areas are enhanced to be able to zoom allll the way in. Such an incredible thing. Cant wait till it spreads worldwide instead of just USA for really zoomed in bits.

Europe is fairly well covered by Multimap and you get an aerial photo overlay for the UK.

If you want an even better one, search Google for NASA World Wind. Big download but 1 metre resolution of the whole USA.
