Having spent 30 mins watching arrival traffic 09L today [21/04] and noticing the left turns departing traffic on 09R were making I wondered if upon a goaround on the arrival traffic and a departing a/c was making a left turn after take off, would the minimum seperation be broken?

Or does the goaround procedure on 09L call for a sharp left turn to avoid conflict with the departing traffic?

TIA

Go around from 09L is straight ahead through 1500' then left to track 040 degrees (I think... I'm only a controller!)

In most cases ARR will warns DEP of any tight gaps and DEP will send northbounds straight ahead or vertically separate from the g/a. If this is not possible, or its an unexpected g/a, then reduced separation is better than non at all! G/a's can always be taken off the standard missed approach, ie hard left turn to the north or indeed straight ahead, but mostly its the departing aircraft which will deviate from the SID.

Zoink,

Hard left turn is not immediately available, as RAF Northolt might have traffic to affect, or other low level traffic flying on the Heli routes.

This is very true. One would of course co-ordinate first!

Once the air raid siren goes, one would of course be proactive regarding N'holt and helis!!

By coincidence I read this post in the office about 18.30, packed up, drove home into London along the M4 past Heathrow, got stopped in a traffic jam - and saw a nice neat goaround from 09L about 19.00. From about 2 miles away looked like a BA 747. Nice left turn at I guess 1500' along the approach track of old runway 23, and on round to a downwind some miles to the north. A parallel 09R departure made a right turn over Feltham but that may well have been his intention - and they were obviously well separated from each other.

There were a number of go-arounds yesterday, mostly due to pilots not being aware that all runway exits are now fully open, or if they did know, they still look shut due to new marker boards either side of the taxiway.

The most impressive g/a has to be from the A346!

It was a joy to see all your little faces as the pens were handed out. Not often you get a little gift from the company :)

Still impressed at one of our clans Intercity APT t-shirt (Ask your parents kids). That is retro cool to the extreme :p Mega respect!!

the missed apch for the 09L in EGLL say: climb straight ahead, when passing 1580 feet or D0.0 from IAA wichever is later, climbing turn Left on track 040 to 3000 feet, than as directed

bye bye

Also posted this in "Spotter's" but thought I'd mention it here as well (sorry if that's against protocol?)
Sunday afternoon Egyptair MS765 went around from short final on 09L. Was this through loss of seperation or an unstabilised approach on short final? I noticed that speed brake was still extended at around 800 feet! Any LHR ATCO care to comment?
Just an interested passenger on the said flight!
Thanks,
Meldrew

He was too high and fast, and initiated a missed approach himself.

No loss of separation.

I got a pen...actually i grabbed it off one of the other watches on my spins. It now takes pride of place in my NATS memorabilia cabinet, alongside my MATS part 1 (1997 vintage) and CATC plastic name tag/badge. We are truly blessed.

Methinks Mr Watch Manager has stashed them all away...maybe until xmas?:suspect:
