Do you realise that we are nearly 1/3 of the way through the year & no one has yet mentioned the fateful phrase 'Pprune Fly-in'.

Its been a dry winter, water stocks are low so to help alleviate the situation, we need to find the driest airfield in the country and have a Fly-in there.

So now to the difficult part, Venue & Date...

We've had Fly-ins at Sywell, Sherburn, North Weald, Duxford, Sandown, Compton Abbas and Coventry. (At least, those are the ones I can remember)

Dates are always a bit of a problem, so to start the ball rolling, how about 11/12 June, 2/3 Jul or 10/11 Sept.? These are good days for me, but I'm not too bothered, except that 18-26 June is out.

2/3rd July is PFA Rally weekend (and Waddington for anyone that's interested).

Ooh I haven't been to one of these in a while!

How about Kemble, it's fairly local for me :D I think there's a bit of an aviation museum somewhere on the site which may interest some.

How about having it in May, plenty of time to plan more later in the year then!

Kolibear,

Yes, well done, its about time we had another Pprune fly-in. You've missed the first Pprune fly-in off your list - it was held at Popham, and I think there was supposed to be one at Caenarfon, but the weather was not very good. I think I've been to five of them. Here's some suggestions of places we might want to go to:

Wellesbourne - reasonably central for eveyone
Shobdon - 'cos I haven't been for ages
Fenland - 'cos I've never been there

Its actually rather hard to come up with a list of places when you don't have a map to hand

Brooklands,

Was that you leaning in to listen to the seminar tent at Fly! on Saturday?

I didn't want to ask "Are you Brooklands" in case I made a prat of myself!

How about annoying Madge and doing Compton Abbas, grass runways, pretty central, some nice old aeroplanes based there, stunning view taking off from 26.

Shoreham is good for a visit too, grass and tarmac, excellent atc, plenty of room, great resturant, two termainals (sorry, clutching at straws now!) Well worth a visit.

Goodwood is an excellent visit too, grass, nice atmosphere, nice location, how about going there?

Almost forgot Redhill too.............

Last but not least, how about L2K for a 'european' fly-in? Just a thought.......

I was thinking recently and thought about sorting something out for a northen fly-in, Newcastle to be exact, to meet our friends from the NAC. I am sure we would be welcomed with open arms....... :)

As for dates, what about trying for at least one fly-in a month? End of May, then sometime in June etc........

Plenty of places to visit, difficult bit is sorting a date.

Nice as Compton Abbas is, only someone living in the South would call it central!

Can I put in a plea for a Sunday, since I work on Saturdays...please!

Wellesbourne and Shobdon both sound good to me. From memory I think Fenland is a little short for our lawn strimmer.

Hi Andy, it says on the flyer the 30th April or is it a monthly thing?

Whoops!!! I am also planning another unrelated event on 30 May (shoudln't be skiving on PPRuNe!) and typed May by mistake... it's April, i.e. a couple of weeks away!

I will be there - wx permitting - in G-BEFA around 12:30 local / 10:30Z

Why don't you come to Sheffield while it's still available to fly into?

Fly the Derbyshire Dales and pretty much in the centre of the country for Northerners and Southerners

Leicester,

Smack in the middle of england, grass and tarmac runway triangles, nice restaurant and facilities, lots of different and interesting planes in the hangar and it's still easy to get to without messing about with too much controlled airspace. If you are looking for something to do in town Leicester has the space museum, which is apparently worth a visit (link below)

Just a thought.

How about Oaksey Park (EGTW).
On the 26th June there's going to be an Aero and Auto (Or Wings and Wheels) day. The Wiltshire PFA Flyers are handling the fly in and the MG car club southwest are handling the cars. Also the Chipping Sodbury classic run will be finishing there. That means about 200 plus classic cars Plus tea & cakes or a barbie if you prefer. I believe that there will be a bar for non handling pilots as well.

It's in aid of the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and local charities.

Normal PPR is waived for the event so here's a chance to land at a delightful strip that's not usually available to non residents due to movements restrictions.

See ya there!:ok:

Good idea Redeye.

Supporting Sheffield sounds good, while we still can.

Why not make it a "two stop" tour and do Sheffield and Barton (while we can).

Of course, if we fancied something a little different, we could always try Weybourne on the North Norfolk coast.

It was the smallest WW2 RAF airfield, it has a 617m long grass strip, but according to the guide,

Fly-ins welcome, special facilities can be arranged (ie .tank demonstrations)

as its just a short walk from the Muckleburgh collection of military vehicles.

In that area it is possible to combine with the thread on beach landings when the tide is out
