Big argument going on here about just what does the asterik in front of a checklist item mean.
Their is no clear definition for a single asterik in front of the item.
For Instance.
* Circuit breakers checked.
This does not reflect to any additional items at the bottom of the page.
Hope this it the correct forum for this.

You don't say which airline (and therefore the checklist philosophy) but it either means -

A. Doesn't need to be checked on transit flights, or "First flight of the day only".

OR

B. Check on all flights.

The rest of the checklist items that are asterisked should tell you which.

This is from the Generic Boeing Flight Manual.
My airline has adopted this format but we have no explanation either as to what these astriks imply.
Every other symbol is identified and explained, but not these.
These are also in the emergency procedure items.
So thru flight items are not the reason.
Probably a simple answer that we all overlooked or forgot about.

Does your company operate both the Pax and Freighter version of the B747? (Just looked in my Boeing Flight Manual and they use the asterisk to differentiate between the -400 Pax and Freighter but even Boeing Flt manuals are company specific).

Could the asterisk indicate that the item only applies to one but not the other? Could it be a difference between -200 and -300?
Pax and Combi etc?

Actually chaps, the asterisk designates those items which MUST be carried out on a hot turn round, i.e. without a crew change. In the event of a crew change, the full preflight check must be completed. :8
