Insurance for flying holiday in the US

I plan to spend about two weeks this summer in the US flying a hired Cessna 172. As most holiday insurance policies contain clauses excluding cover for activities such as GA flying I was wondering is anyone knew of any insurers which do include such cover in their holiday insurance policies.

Most of them do if you ask them specifically and pay an additional premium. I have used policies from Worldwide http://www.worldwideinsure.com/ and from American Express and both covered flying at an additional premium.

As you are concerned about insurance, don't forget that if the FBO rental includes insurance at all, it's likely to be for the FBO's benefit, not yours. That means you could be liable for out of use and similar costs, even if you are blameless in whatever happened.

Be sure to check with the FBO what's included and consider additional renter pilot insurance from AOPA or others, or be prepared to buy the FBO a replacement aircraft!

My insurance with Besso (AOPA recommended) and advertised in the flying mags is H24 and world-wide.

Not cheap, but a tidy little bundle for 'er indoors if I eat earth.

When we went off on a flying holiday to the US we had the same problem. However, a friend recommended Airsports http://www.bhpa.co.uk/bhpa/airsports/index.php

They usually cover hang and paraglider pilots for insurance, so us GA types are a pretty safe bet with our boring sedate touring in comparison. Contact Yvonne through the website, she was very helpful and I felt happy that if they can't cover you comprehensively, nobody can!

If in doubt, and it's aviation related, go to Traffords Insurance (http://www.traffordsinsurance.co.uk) . I've got an annual policy with them which includes flying and at a reasonable price.

Snap.....I pay about £150 per year for me and the Mrs to ski, sail, fly etc.......through Traffords...
