What is 'Remote DME'? I've been hearing this term a lot recently. Usually along the lines of: "I've purchased a new plane with......."

I think they mean a DME unit which is linked to a NAV box. By selecting 'remote' on the DME it takes the frequency from the NAV box and doesn't need to be set seperately.
