MW/LW Radio Stations in Europe to relieve cruise boredom

Anyone out there who has a good list of recievable radio stations throughout Europe to help cushion the boredom in the cruise. I know of Holland Rocks 675, but thats about it. Any help appreciated!! FP

Basically, you can try any combination that adds up to 9, such as Atlantic 252, an Irish news station (2+5+2=9), so have a play around and see what you can find.

Could you explain that? Is there some theory of Rock Radio I missed on my ATPL course?

Confused by this business of adding up to nine.

I assume you're thinking of frequencies that you can tune an ADF into and listen through the IDENT.

Well how come I can ident 353 and 545, two local NDB's to me?

I can reccomend 999 (Classic Gold or something like that - good music but only likely to get it over the midlands). Can't remember if an ADF can get upto 1215 but if it can then that's Virgin radio - also very good.

I was told listening to the radio over the ADF didnt do it any good - is that true???

jezbowman, broadcast band AM station frequencies all are divisible by 9 - it's the way their frequency spectrum is split up and allocated. Analogous to our VHF 8.33Mhz spacing. I imagine that NDBs use a lot less bandwidth, so can be closer in frequency without interfering.

As an aside, that pearl of the Pacific, KUMU1500 in HNL, has gone from music to yap-yap. Pity, even though the music was far away from rock or even modern, it was something to listen to and available over a wide area of the Pacific.

Try 12095 on HF, it's the BBC World Service. Whilst it may be boring it beats listening to the Yanks on 123.45 asking for ride reports across the pond.

Just to add to mustaf's post the AM spacing in most parts of the world is 9Khz except in the Americas where it is generally 10Khz with a few 5Khzs thrown in. Therefore their AM frequencies normally end in a zero or 5.
