Hangar Costs while on Maintenance

What is the story for paying Hangarage whilst out on Maintenance?

Example Two months!

Do you pay full costs or nothing or a percentage?

Why might you expect to not pay? You are renting the space even if you do not put your a/c in it, after all you do not get, say, a half day discount if you fly off for a day out. How would you feel if you got your a/c back after the work has been done and the hangar owner told you that your space was now occupied as you did not pay the rent? :confused:

I would expect that you're paying to have space in a hangar, whether you use it or not is down to you (for instance, if you went down route for a month or two, would you hope for a rebate?). I don't view hangarage as being like a car park, where you just pay for the time that you're there - it's more like renting a house, where you pay for an agreed period of time and how / if you use it is your choice.

Obviously, if you have a different agreement with the owner of the hangar, then that would be judged on its own merits. Have you been at other places with other agreements?

Sorry if it seems a bit clinical / harsh, but I would think that any rebate on the hangar owners part would just be goodwill.

The hangar space was there for your use, whether you choose to park an aircraft in the hangar space that you have rented or not is entirely up to you!

My experience is that you pay 100% for hangerage, even if the maintenance is on the same site.

Your only possibility of recouping any of that loss would be if you could sub-let your space to some other desperate sole, for those two months.

Now of course, if the hanger owner was letting someone else use your space while your aircraft wasn't present, then that would be a different story, and you'd certainly have a claim then.

On a related topic, if your aircraft is on maintenance for 2 months, I take it that it's something serious. If so, and on the assumption that it won't be flying (even as part of the maintenance) anytime soon you could get your insurance reduced to ground risks only. This could be a significant saving. But be VERY careful to make sure the aircraft won't be flying as part of the maintenance, and that the maintenance company understand that the cover has been changed.

Wow! ease up, I have no intention of not paying, It just occured to me to ask others what their situation was in this respect.

Since this I have spoken to the Airport manager, who says there is no charge whilst out for an extended period.

You do however run the small risk of loosing your place. Seems very fair to me.:ok:

Hmmm sounds to me like you have a very "Accommodating" hanger owner:p

Things could be worse, you could get charged hangarage off your maintenance company too, like a certain bunch of JAR M3cowboys tried doing once to a close friend of mine:ouch:
