Hi those of you that have done them...

I'm starting the distance learning course with Atlantic Flight Training to do the JAA IR theory exams straight away. I'm going to be studying a bit (probably an hour) mon-fri. I have usually picked up airplane stuff pretty fast, could anyone tell me how long it took them.

Also what were the hardest exams parts and the easiest?

Thanks v. much in anticipation!

Which of the 14 exams do you need to do for the IR.

I did my IR last year (GTS at Bournemouth);

The Air Law was a real pain in the backside...do you really want to know the maximum distance from a threshold of an ILS transmitter etc.

The met only really made sense when GTS explained it, but is really useful...well most of it.

Flight planning OK...just a few nitty things/formulas to learn

IR Comms is actually VFR comms and straightforward.

The HPL is a bit of rote learning.

Aircraft general knowledge is a pain (learning about different gyroscopes for example), but it helps if you can remember school physics (25 years ago for me).

Annoyingly not all in the packs is tested on in the exams, but the schools still have to put everything in.

If you go to revision school having brute learnt the basic facts/numbers, the week's revision will get you through.
