I am in a group which has a 1999 Cessna 172R. We are looking at the possibility of upgrading to a similar aged Cessna 182 and I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea by what % the annual operating costs are likely to increase. I am looking at things such as fuel consumption, 50 hour checks (6 cylinders vs 4), maintenance of the wobbly prop, annual etc. Any advice would be welcome.

Hi,

we used to own a 1999 C182s. Fuel consumption is about 12gph in the cruise. If you get up toward FL100 kind of height you can get it back closer to 10gph.

Wouldn't really be able to compare to a C172 servicing, however for a serious IFR tourer you will def. notice where the money went on a 182. We now have a T182TC which is a very different machine to the normally aspirated models. We get between 145 - 150 KTAS at FL100+. Unfortunately the no deice is the show stopper in this country in the winter. Good luck.
